Egypt is building the world’s largest solar park. The $2.8-billion Benban complex is located in Egypt’s Western Desert. Egpyt has set up ambitious goals to get at least 42 percent of the country’s energy from renewable sources by 2025. The project will have 30 solar plants staffed by 4,000 workers and could supply as much as 1.8 gigawatts of electricity for residences and businesses around the country. Egyptian solar energy startup KarmSolar, which is behind the development, is the first company licensed to sell power off the national grid. — LA TIMES
