When you are on a boat in Cairo, Luxor, or Aswan the Nile never leaves you. It is 4,258 miles long and flows north draining into the Mediterranean Sea. It originates from the Blue Nile which begins at Lake Tana, in Ethiopia and joins the White Nile south of Khartoum in Sudan.

The Ancient Egyptians called Egypt the “gift of the Nile” since the kingdom owed its survival to the annual flooding of the Nile and the resulting depositing of fertile silt.
